The Hobbit starts shooting in June

Finally, Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of Tolkien's classic The Hobbit, starts shooting this June in New Zealand. New Zealand seems like a perfect place for shooting a movie based on a Tolkien's book. We all know how great is the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The production of the two films will take 18 months to finish. The first movie will be released in 2011, and the second, one year after.

Peter Jackson stepped out the director's role in early phase of production, handling the command to Guillermo del Toro.
The main reasoning appears to be timetable conflicts with other directing commitments Jackson already have.

No actor has been cast as Bilbo Baggins so far.
